Shawnigan Lake, British Columbia
In Shawnigan Lake, British Columbia, a local ice cream shop took a proactive step toward sustainability and long-term cost savings. By installing a 12.12 kW solar energy system paired with battery storage, the business transformed its approach to energy use while strengthening its resilience against rising electricity costs.
One of the most meaningful outcomes of this project was timing. The system was completed a full year ahead of the program deadline, allowing the customer to begin saving sooner than expected. With support from BC’s solar and battery rebates combined with federal tax credits, 57% of the total installation cost was covered. This significant incentive reduced the financial barrier and made clean energy a practical investment for a small business.
With solar and battery storage working together, the business can now store energy generated during the day or charge the batteries during off-peak hours, then use that power during busy operating periods. This approach helps reduce peak electricity charges and provides greater control over energy costs, especially during high-demand hours.
The total project cost was 53% covered through BC local rebate and federal Investment Tax Credit, clearly demonstrating how the incentives make solar and energy storage more accessible and financially rewarding.
To further maximize savings and flexibility, the solar system was paired with 2 Pion Power 13.5 kWh batteries, delivering a total of 27 kWh of energy storage. Space at the site was limited, which required careful planning. Our team worked closely with the customer to evaluate multiple installation options before confirming a solution that fit the available space while keeping additional costs to a minimum.
